Governor Greg Abbot Reappoints Ramtech’s Roland Brown to the Texas Industrialized Building Code Council
The office of Governor Greg Abbott has announced the reappointment of Ramtech’s Roland Brown to another term on the Texas Industrialized Building Code Council. Roland is one of twelve new and existing member appointments made by Governor Abbot to the 12 member council. Originally appointed by former Governor Rick Perry in October of 2010, Roland will continue to serve as the Presiding Officer of the council which functions as an advisory board for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on issues related to the regulation of the industrialized housing and commercial modular building industries.
Roland has long served as Ramtech’s Vice President of Design and Development, overseeing the architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil designs for the relocatable and permanent modular building projects that we develop across multiple industries and uses. He also previously served as the Government Affairs Chairman and President of the Board of Directors of the Modular Building Institute, the international nonprofit trade association that serves the commercial modular construction industry. Roland is a member of the International Code Council where he has been an active advocate for addressing code and compliance issues that affect the commercial modular building industry.
Roland began his career in the modular industry in 1981, and since that time has developed a long track record of creating innovative and unique structural designs which have made significant contributions to the technical evolution of the commercial modular industry. These innovations include Ramtech’s award winning slab-on-grade permanent modular construction process, a grade level approach which allows for modular building sections to be set and attached directly onto a conventional concrete slab foundation.

Ramtech Celebrates 40 Years in Commercial Modular Construction
This month not only shepherds in the new year but brings with it a significant anniversary as Ramtech celebrates our 40th year in business and we begin our fifth decade in the commercial modular construction industry. Our success and longevity through this time has been built upon the talents and loyalty of our employees, both past and present, many of which have been with us for a significant part of our history. Ramtech’s President, Matt Slataper expressed it well by noting,
“Forty years is quite a milestone, and its truly a testimony to the loyalty and character of our incredible employees and the relationships that we’ve built, both with our industry partners and the customers that have made up the extended Ramtech family. Many of our employees have dedicated a majority of their professional lives to play a part in our mission, and I’m humbled and honored to work alongside them.”
As we start the new year, Ramtech’s vision for what can be accomplished through our design-build relocatable and permanent modular construction processes is now clearer than ever to the A/E community, our end-users, and all of the other project stakeholders that can utilize its benefits. Add to that the trends and tailwinds that continues to build for the entire commercial modular construction industry, and the future is as bright as it’s ever been. All of this will put Ramtech in a prime position to recognize significant growth and allow for all our employees to benefit on the promises of what we can build together as we move forward in 2022 and beyond.

Ramtech Installs Portable Classroom Complex at Greenhill School in Addison, TX
Ramtech recently completed a relocatable modular school complex for the Greenhill School in Addison, Texas. The 5,016 square foot project, called the Science Village, will be used on an interim basis while the Dallas-area private school looks to demolish and build a new permanent facility.
The project requirement called for Ramtech to install six of our industry standard 24’ x 64’ LT portable double-classrooms in two rows end to end, along with a 12’ x 34’ girls and boys restroom module in the front of the complex. The buildings were set onto CMU block piers and connected using a site constructed concrete walkway and an extensive wood deck, ramps, and landing system. The building layout called for one of the portable classrooms to be used as an administrative office with multiple cubicles on each side. The buildings were also customized to include an interior door between the classrooms in the center partition wall.
Because the buildings are used primarily as science labs for the schools’ middle and high school students, the code requirements called for acid resistant piping to be used which was accommodated by installing Chem Drain CPVC for all the DWV lines. The exterior cladding of the modular buildings utilizes 26-gauge R-Panel commercial grade steel siding, along with 29-gauge R-Panel metal for the roofs. The interiors of the portable classrooms feature vinyl covered gypsum on the walls, VCT tile flooring, and lay-in acoustical tile ceilings. The heating and cooling for each classroom are accommodated using Bard exterior wall-mounted air conditioning units. To minimize any waste and to maximize the budget for the project, the cabinetry and science lab equipment was removed from the existing structure and installed in each of the science labs.
Founded in 1950 and located on 75 acres in Addison, Texas, the Greenhill School is comprised of 15 buildings, including a full athletic complex, a library facility, and the state-of-the-art Marshall Family Performing Arts Center with over 303,000 square feet under one roof. Greenhill has become one of the leading independent coeducational day schools in the DFW Metroplex, and now serves over 1,300 students in pre-k through the 12th grade.
