Fort Bliss Information Flows From New Ramtech Modular Building
The Directorate of Information Management (DOIM) at Fort Bliss, TX recently began their final preparations prior to occupancy on the third in a series of permanent modular buildings developed and built by design-build construction firm Ramtech Building Systems of Mansfield, Texas. Located on the main cantonment of the sprawling Fort Bliss military base in El Paso, the new 15,000 square foot building addition replaces the original base Data Center and Server Rooms built in the 1960’s. Ramtech and MBI Make the Case for Modular on Capital Hill
Negotiations on the federal budget and a possible government shutdown weren’t the only issues taking place on Capitol Hill last week. Ramtech and a contingent of modular building company representatives organized by the Modular Building Institute went to the U.S. House of Representatives to lobby members of Congress on the use of modular construction as a viable alternative to conventional site construction. Modular Grows Up… Literally
Modular construction has been in the news in the Big Apple recently, on the plans to construct a 34 story modular apartment building at the Atlantic Yards development in the Bronx Borough of New York City. Capsys Corporation has been selected to build the project designed by the engineering firm of Ove Arup & Partners. Much has been made in the press regarding the impact to the city’s construction unions and how these same unions initially offered support to the project as a means of generating construction jobs in a flat jobs market. Although the politics on something like this are always interesting, the technical challenges faced by the developer, designers, and builders make for fascinating reading on an ambitious project like this.
