DescriptionThis course is a plant tour and walking class designed to educate the Architectural and Design community about the means and methods of constructing buildings, building components and component assembly. The advantages of Permanent Modular Construction is accented and ties into the Modular Design & Construction course # RBS201805. This tour is through an active modular construction plant which includes material methods and management, sustainable methods of construction that increase recycling, minimize waste and accent material tracking for LEED, methods of centralized construction for ICC Building Code compliance for commercial construction, and building walk-thru of commercial buildings recently completed.
Learning Objective 1: This course is a plant tour and walking class designed to educate the Architectural and Design community about the means and methods of constructing three dimensional commercial modular buildings and structures. Actual steel, wood, and assembly fabrication will be viewed.
Learning Objective 2: The advantages of commercial construction, specifically Permanent Modular Construction, are accented including construction methods, material logistics and distribution and prefabricated floor, roof, and wall jigs.
Learning Objective 3: PMC sustainable methods of construction will be shown in action including material management, tracking, recycling methods and extreme methods of waste reduction. Many options for coordination with USGBC LEED methods and documentation will be discussed.
Learning Objective 4: The tour will accent actual buildings constructed in compliance with the ICC Building Code family of codes for commercial construction. Participants will walk-thru two commercial buildings recently completed and accent methods of transportation for shipping building sections and components. This tour can be offered in conjunction with or without Modular Design & Construction course #RBS201805.
